Job Title: Database Administrator (PostgreSQL)
Experience: 5–8 Years
Location: India (Hybrid / Remote)
Employment Type: Full Time
We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Database Administrator (DBA) to join our Database Services team. In this role, you will own the health, performance, availability, and security of PostgreSQL and PostgreSQL-compatible database environments for our enterprise customers across industries, including Government, BFSI, and large private-sector organisations. You will work closely with solution architects, consultants, and customer IT teams to design, run, and continuously improve mission-critical database platforms.
This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned DBA who wants to deepen their PostgreSQL expertise, work on large-scale migrations and distributed database deployments, and grow into a senior technical leadership role in a high-performance, collaborative environment.
Database Administration & Operations
Install, configure, upgrade, and patch PostgreSQL and PostgreSQL-compatible databases across on-premises, cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP), and hybrid environments.
Manage day-to-day operations of production, staging, and development databases, ensuring high availability, integrity, and recoverability.
Design, implement, and regularly test backup, restore, and point-in-time recovery strategies (pgBackRest, Barman, pg_dump/pg_basebackup).
Set up and manage replication and high-availability solutions (streaming and logical replication, Patroni, repmgr, pgpool-II, PgBouncer).
Performance Tuning & Monitoring
Proactively monitor database health, capacity, and performance using tools such as pg_stat_statements, pgBadger, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar.
Analyse and tune slow queries, execution plans, indexing strategies, vacuum/autovacuum behaviour, and server configuration parameters.
Plan capacity and scaling, including partitioning, connection pooling, and read-replica strategies for growing workloads.
Troubleshoot and resolve production incidents within agreed SLAs, and lead root-cause analysis for critical issues.
Migration, Security & Customer Engagement
Support and execute database migrations from Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, and other platforms to PostgreSQL, including schema conversion, data migration, and post-migration validation.
Implement and maintain database security best practices — role-based access control, encryption, auditing (pgAudit), and compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
Act as a trusted technical advisor to customers, conducting health checks, architecture reviews, and providing clear recommendations.
Participate in an on-call rotation for managed-services customers and coordinate with support and engineering teams on escalations.
Automation, Documentation & Collaboration
Automate routine DBA tasks using Shell, Python, Ansible, or similar tools to improve reliability and reduce manual effort.
Maintain accurate runbooks, configuration records, and operational documentation for all managed environments.
Contribute to internal knowledge base articles, training material, and best-practice guides.
Mentor junior DBAs and collaborate closely with solution architects, consultants, and pre-sales teams on technical solutioning.
Experience & Skills
5–8 years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator, with at least 3 years managing PostgreSQL in production environments.
Strong expertise in PostgreSQL internals — MVCC, WAL, vacuum, query planner, indexing, and configuration tuning.
Proven experience with high-availability, replication, backup/recovery, and disaster-recovery setups for business-critical systems.
Solid Linux/Unix administration skills and proficiency in scripting (Bash, Python, or similar).
Experience with database migrations from Oracle, SQL Server, or MySQL to PostgreSQL is highly desirable.
Exposure to cloud-managed databases (Amazon RDS/Aurora, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Google Cloud SQL) and containerised deployments (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
Familiarity with distributed SQL or PostgreSQL-compatible distributed databases (e.g., Citus, YugabyteDB) is a plus.
Qualities We Value
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a calm, methodical approach under pressure.
Clear verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
Ownership mindset with a high level of curiosity and commitment to continuous learning.
Organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple customer environments simultaneously.
Collaborative team player who works well in a customer-facing, cross-functional environment.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (B.E./B.Tech/MCA preferred).
Be part of a fast-growing, global database company built around PostgreSQL and open-source innovation.
Work on large-scale, mission-critical deployments and complex migration projects for leading enterprises.
Access to structured learning, certifications, and a clear path to senior technical and architect roles.
A collaborative culture that invests in your growth and success.
Competitive compensation and benefits.
